The Chester County Commissioners said there is an “excellent” chance of reopening the shuttered Brandywine and Jennersville hospitals as other local healthcare facilities are seeing a tidal wave of patients as a result of their recent closures, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News

At the annual State of the County, the commissioners told 200 guests that they are focused on reopening the hospitals.

“We are working vigorously, and we believe something good is going to happen,” said Chester County Commissioner Marian Moskowitz. “We are working with some entities. I think things are moving. It will take a little time.”

Commissioners said that the loss of Brandywine and Jennersville hospitals will create many problems in upcoming months for healthcare workers and residents.

Currently, southern Chester County residents only have the Chester County Hospital in West Chester or ChristianaCare’s Wilmington Hospital available for medical assistance.

“We want to make sure we have viable hospitals, not just five years from now, but 25 years from now in the western and southern part of Chester County,” said Chester County Commissioner Josh Maxwell.
