Last week, PREIT proudly revealed an industry first by announcing it is offering Amazon Lockers at Exton Square Mall and 14 other of its East Coast locations, according to a staff report from the Daily Local News.

In the statement, PREIT said it is showing its commitment “to bringing innovative offerings to consumers, to adapt to their changing behaviors and elevate their shopping experience.”

Amazon Lockers allow customers to have their Amazon.com orders delivered to self-service Amazon Lockers at Exton Square Mall instead of a regular mailing address. The option is offered as part of the checkout process on Amazon.com.

Once the package arrives at the locker, the purchaser is notified via an email containing a unique pickup code which they can use at the locker to retrieve the package. They can also be used in reverse by shoppers wishing to return their Amazon purchases.

The new service shows the growing connection between physical and digital retail. According to Joseph Coradino, PREIT’s CEO, this program should help expand its shopper base by bringing more consumers to malls where they can rediscover the joys of offline shopping.

“To team up with Amazon to offer a first-of-its-kind, multi-location Amazon Locker installation at some of our malls across the East Coast is a great milestone in our ongoing commitment to innovation and optimizing the shopper experience for customers – both in-store and online,” he noted.
