The Chester County Fund for Women and Girls will be hosting a nonpartisan panel discussion on key issues for women in this campaign on Thursday, October 13th from 8:30 AM – 10:15 AM. The public event will be held at the Chester County Chamber of Commerce and will feature a light breakfast and plenty of networking opportunities.

Former Pennsylvania House of Representatives member Barbara McIlvaine Smith will moderate the panel discussion

Barbara McIlvaine Smith, former member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives will be moderating the panel discussion that will focus on 1) engagement and representation of women in politics, 2) violence against women, 3) equal pay, and 4) women’s health.

Panelists include women who are leaders in their field and have either held office or have been active in the political process:

  • Susan Carty, League of Women Voters President
  • Beverly Mackereth, Senior Government Relations Specialist
  • Carole Rubley, Independent Environmental Services Professional
  • Kathy Boockvar, Executive Director of Lifecycle WomanCare
  • Dr. Dorothy McLane, Pennsylvania State President of AAUW

The goal of the event is to focus on how the issues in this year’s general election impact women with the objective of helping attendees think critically and, thus, make informed decisions at the polls. It is a good base that could, down the road, result in some of the larger objectives such as encourage women to run or at least actively support candidates who think about these issues.

The Chester County Fund for Women and Girls leads and unites the community through philanthropy and advocacy to ensure that women and girls have resources and opportunities to thrive. For more than 18 years, the Fund has raised awareness about the critical needs of women and girls, and has awarded over $2.6 million to 69 non-profit organizations.
