West Chester’s Jim Furyk posted the lowest round in PGA Tour history on Sunday during the Travelers Championship at the TPC River Highlands in Connecticut by completing the round in only 58 shots, writes Roman Stubbs for The Washington Post.

Furyk made 10 birdies, six of them on the front nine, and one eagle to post the historic score. It could have been even better on the par-70 course had he successfully made a long putt on the final hole.

The amazing round saw Furyk make seven birdies in a row ending up 11 under par for the tournament. He also completed a course-record 27 on the front nine–two strokes under the previous record.

Three years ago, 46-year-old Furyk shot a 12-under 59 in the second round of the BMW Classic in Lake Forest. This latest achievement makes him the first player in PGA Tour history to record both a 59 and a 58 in tour events.

“There’s a lot of rounds by a lot of great players ahead of me that never reached 58, so I’m going to hold that record alone,” said Furyk. “To hold it here on the PGA Tour is phenomenal. To have a little small piece of history is something you dream of.”
