Coatesville leaders are shifting their revitalization efforts into high gear with next month’s inaugural Coatesville Invitational Vintage Automobile Grand Prix.

The 2.2-mile race down historic Lincoln Highway will bring 50 classic vehicles from the 1900s through the 1960s to the heart of town for the benefit of the city’s parks and recreation facilities.

“Over 13,000 residents divided into four neighborhoods within a picturesque valley are joining together to transform and reactivate the city into a growing, vibrant destination,” organizers announced.

The cars and motorcycles begin lining up at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, with an opening ceremony scheduled for 9:15 and a special parade lap at 9:30. The first races begin at 10 a.m. and run until trophy ceremonies at 3:30 p.m. in Gateway Park.

Racing will feature priceless entry pace laps, pre-1965 vintage racing cars, pre-1930 open wheel racing cars and race motorcycles.

Besides the free-admission grand prix, auto and industrial memorabilia will entertain spectators all day at Gateway Park’s Vendor Village, as will bands, food trucks, wine tasting and feature entertainment such as Coatesville High School Jr. ROTC Band, Silver Sound Disc Jockeys and other special surprise guests to be announced on Grand Prix Day.
