Phoenixville’s GCGC Greek Yogurt on Bridge Street is offering a tasty treat to its customers and combining it with a good cause by donating a cup of yogurt to a local food bank for every cup sold, writes Virginia Lindak for Daily Local News.

One of the newest eateries in Phoenixville, GCGC offers a wide array of healthy sweet and savory organic yogurt while supporting local non-profit organizations. Its mission is reflected in its name, as GCGC stands for “Get a Cup, Give a Cup.”

“I’ve always been drawn to doing something socially responsible. I thought, ‘well, what if we just give a cup away every time someone buys one?’” said Justin Hartman, who owns the store with his wife Ashley.

The idea to open a Greek Yogurt shop came to them after they visited Greece several years ago and they even developed the business plan before returning home. The Hartmans then reached out to food banks and nonprofit groups in the region including Phoenixville Area Community Services.

The store uses Seven Stars Farm Organic Yogurt which is made in nearby Kimberton. The yogurt is then put through a 12 hour straining process which removes the whey, making it into Greek yogurt.

The store now donates cups of yogurt, redeemable GCGC food tickets, and other food items sold in the shop to help these organizations.

“With all the new restaurants, bars and shops, there’s a big influx of people,” said Hartman. “Phoenixville seemed like a really cool place and it is very healthy oriented.”
