St. Malachi Reserve from Unionville’s The Farm at Doe Run won second place out of over 1,800 entries for the prestigious “Best of Show” category in the American Cheese Society’s 2016 Competition, according to a staff report from Daily Local News.

In addition to snagging second place for “Best in Show,” St. Malachi Reserve also won first place in the farmstead cow’s milk and aged over 60 days category. The winners were announced during the ceremony held on July 29th at the 33rd Annual ACS Conference in Des Moines, Iowa.

“It is truly an honor to have St. Malachi recognized on this level,” said Matthew Hettlinger of The Farm at Doe Run. “The hard work and dedication provided by all of our team members has lifted our cheeses to new heights.”

Samuel Kennedy, who also works at The Farm, added that receiving the honor for St. Malachi shows the success of both Chester County and Pennsylvania cheese making as a whole.

St. Malachi was not the only cheese from the Farm to win an award as its ‘The Creamery Collection Batch #11’ won first place in the Hispanic & Portuguese style of cheese made with mixed milk and ripened over 90 days. Its ‘Dragonfly’ cheese also placed third in the soft-ripened, open category of cheeses made from cow’s milk.
