Tri-M Group Co-Founder Lands in Business Hall of Fame

After transforming The Tri-M Group from a two-man shop into a contracting powerhouse, Tom Musser (third from left) made the Chester County Business Hall of Fame. He died Saturday at 81.

He took the concept of an electrical transformer to a whole new level, and now the lifelong Chester County man whose shocking electrical contracting success was transmitted across the eastern seaboard is a business hall of famer.

The Tri-M Group Chairman W. Thomas Musser will officially be inducted into the Chester County Business Hall of Fame during the 2016 Chester County Economic Development Council Business Achievement Award Dinner on April 7 at the Phoenixville Foundry.

“Each year, we have the privilege to publicly honor an individual who has made significant strides and an indelible mark in our business community,” CCEDC President and CEO Gary Smith said. “We welcome the public to join us for an inspiring evening and meet and mingle with the region’s top leaders as we honor this year’s Hall of Fame inductee, Tom Musser.”

The Tri-M Group’s Musser was selected from among the “hundreds of entrepreneurs, corporate and community leaders” who work side-by-side with the CCEDC “to cultivate smart growth in Chester County and the surrounding region,” Smith said.

In particular, Musser transformed a two-person Kennett Square electrical contracting company he founded in 1964 with his brother Dick into a comprehensive 400-employee electrical solutions provider for some of the world’s most demanding companies, including DuPont, JP Morgan Chase, Comcast and Halliburton.

The April 7 cocktail party, program and dinner will add Musser and The Tri-M Group to the ranks of previous Chester County business leaders like Oscar Lasko of Lasko Products, Jack Loew of J. Loew & Associates, Tom Fillippo of Devault Foods, Greg Bentley of Bentley Systems, John Bogle of The Vanguard Group, Robert Hankin of Hankin Group, Jerry Parsons of CTDI and more.

Musser’s leadership has also extended to the Kennett Square Rotary Club, Brandywine Valley YMCA, Kennett Area YMCA, Chester County Hospital Foundation, Southern Chester County Chamber of Commerce, Associated Builders and Contractors, National Federation of Independent Business, U.S. Naval Institute, and Department of Defense Advisory Board for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

And his legacy lives on at The Tri-M Group, where his children, Traci Musser Bauguess and Thomas H. Musser, are employed.
