Despite the draw of Philadelphia for makers of craft beer, one startup Locust Lane Craft Brewery, has decided to plant its roots in the suburbs signing a lease at 50 Three Run Road in Malvern, writes Kenneth Hilario for Philadelphia Business Journal.

“Now the fun really starts,” said Tom Arnold, Locust Lane’s co-founder and brewer.

Arnold, himself from Malvern, founded the brewery with his two fellow Penn State alumni, Jason Cartwright of Jenkintown and Bryan Brockson of West Chester.

f44251e11125ecef122fef2f88e4247aSelf-funded by the three men, Locust Lane Brewery will span 5,200-square-feet and plans to focus on the simplicity of the four basic beer ingredients: grain, hops, yeast, and water. Sticking to this theme, the names of the beers will be equally as straightforward and to the point.

While there are other breweries in Chester County, according to Arnold, Locust Lane will be Malvern’s only one which the co-founders see as a true benefit.

The owners will start making their unique beers in November and begin selling them by the end of the year. They plan to produce 500 barrels in their first calendar year, doubling that to 1,000 in the second year.

Upon completion, the brewery will have a 1,300-square-foot tasting room with up to six brews always on offer. Their core beers of Pale ale, IPA, ESB and Stout will always be available plus some seasonal options. Part of the experience will be tours of the facility and for hungry visitors they are planning a rotating schedule of food trucks parked just outside.
