New $27K CCIU Grant Keeps Special Opportunities Coming for Students

A student performs at the 2016 Chester County Shakespeare Festival held at Immaculata University. Now in its 30th year, the event brings together elementary, middle and high schools to perform and adapt a Shakespearean production. The study of Shakespeare is an integral part of the language arts curricula in Chester County.

Chester County students will continue to get the opportunity to take on new and fun academic challenges outside the classroom thanks to $27,100 in grant funding from CCRES Regional and Behavioral Health Staffing Services that’s headed to the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU).

Each year, CCIU special events challenge more than 7,300 students from across the county’s school districts to pit their minds against each other through the Chester County Academic Competition, ponder what the future might look like at the Chester County College Fair, put the world around them under the microscope during the Chester County Science Research Competition, paint brand new expressions for the High School Art Show, put on new personalities as actors in the Shakespeare Festival, probe the recesses of their intellects to spell strange words at the Spelling Bee and put their books aside to dream of escapes during the Summer Camp Fair.

“The CCRES grant ensures that the CCIU will be able to continue to offer events that enhance teaching and learning in the school, promote academic achievement of our students and encourage academic pursuits outside of the classroom,” Special Events Coordinator Jennifer Shealy said. “This grant directly impacts thousands of Chester County’s students by engaging them in meaningful learning activities.”

Through CCIU, the quality educational and human service programs for children, families and schools that CCRES aims to provide reach into all 12 of Chester County’s school districts and their 45 private and parochial schools.
