Jim Breslin, the former studio producer at QVC‘s complex in East Goshen, has turned his focus to writing, transferring his time at the TV shopping giant into a successful book, writes  Michael Rellahan for Daily Local News.

Breslin spent years attending writing workshops and learning the tricks of the trade while working towards his dream of writing a novel that ties together his past and points him to the future.

After spending close to two decades at QVC, Breslin had more than enough stories to wow readers. However, he kept putting the book off, spending his time organizing the first West Chester Story Slams as well as publishing both his and other writer’s short stories though his own Oermead Publishing.

It was reading on Facebook about the movie featuring Meryl Streep, Sandra Bullock, and Oprah Winfrey focused on a home shopping channel that galvanized him to finally get it done.

“They were just starting the process,“ recalled Breslin. “So I said, ‘I’ve got to get this book out.’

In less than four years, Breslin published his novel “Shoplandia,” which focuses on the comings and goings at a network inspired by QVC.

As Breslin describes it, the novel “shows the live studio from several perspectives, line producers, back stage personnel, co-hosts.” He adds that while different characters stream in and out, the heart of the story is Jake who begins working backstage right out of college and works his way up to being a producer.
