Lincoln University, the first degree-granting HBCU in the country, has appointed Patricia Pierce Ramsey as its new Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs from July 1st, writes Lauren Poteat for AFRO.

“It’s no surprise Patricia impressed all those she met during her recent visit to campus,“ said Lincoln’s Interim President Richard Green. “She’s an accomplished educator, researcher, and administrator, and as more people get to know her, her ability to quickly understand and act on the needs of our faculty and students will become more evident.”

Ramsey most recently served at Bowie State University in Maryland as a professor and chairwoman of the Department of Natural Sciences. During her 11 year tenure she also served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs in 2004, as well as Interim President in 2006.

Her extensive educational background includes a doctorate in biology from Georgetown University, two master’s degrees in biology and botany from Harvard University and Howard University respectively, as well as a bachelor’s in biology education from Norfolk State University.

She has also completed leadership programs at Harvard’s Institute for Educational Management, the Millennium Leadership Initiative, as well as the CIVIC Leadership Institute.
