Weston Solutions, a West Chester environmental management company, is taking on four years of toxic chemical cleanup to give a California community fresh ammunition to fire up more economic development at an old Army ammo plant.

RiverbankThe West Coast city of Riverbank just awarded Weston Solutions the task of “clearing (polychlorinated biphenyls) from interior building surfaces, removal and disposal of siding and roof panels, and treatment of surface soil” as part of a $39.5 million redevelopment grant from the Army, John Holland announced in a Modesto Bee report.

Riverbank aims to “transform the property from a contaminated military site into a job-producing, economic engine for the community,” Mayor Richard O’Brien said in the article.

After the work of 25 to 30 Weston experts is completed, the employment capacity at the 173-acre industrial site could shoot up by 100 people, to 400.

“This is another milestone in the redevelopment of the Army ammunition plant,” City Manager Jill Anderson added. “We are grateful to the Army and the regulatory agencies for allowing us to be a model of successful reuse of a former military site.”
