He put West Chester University on the front lines in the fight to support the military and its veterans, and last week in return the WCU Council of Trustees put retiring President Greg Weisenstein’s name on the center he worked hard to develop.

Since his 2009 inauguration, Weisenstein established an Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program, made WCU the North Atlantic headquarters of Troops to Teachers and fostered a record increase in ROTC members and student veterans on campus, according to WCU and a Daily Local News report by Pete Bannan.22

The newly renamed Greg R. & Sandra L. Weisenstein Veterans Center at 624 S. High St. serves as acknowledgement of those contributions, though it is not alone in its recognition. Weisenstein has also been honored with a seat on the U.S. Army Committee on Education and Army ROTC parent Cadet Command’s most prestigious award, the Gen. William E. DePuy Award. In addition, WCU has been named a Military-Friendly School by Victory Media.

As for the future, campus bookstore Student Services joined the Council of Trustees in ensuring Weisenstein’s legacy lives on for many, many years through a donation of $500,000 to the WCU Foundation for permanent endowment aid to student veterans.
