Casual Fridays at Benchmark Federal Credit Union Raises Funds for Charity

In exchange for a monthly charitable donation, Benchmark Federal Credit Union employees are allowed to wear jeans to work on Fridays. The funds are then pooled at the end of the year and given to a Chester County nonprofit. For 2015, the beneficiary of the $1,860 donation was Exton’s Home of the Sparrow, the non-profit which helps women facing homelessness secure a better future.

Benchmark is also the title sponsor of the upcoming Chester County Single Mothers’ Conference, an event that will take place on April 9th at Henderson High School in West Chester and is open to all single mothers.

“Benchmark believes in empowering women, especially in financial matters,” said Rebecca Worthington, Benchmark’s Marketing Director. “We are inspired by the good work Home of the Sparrow does in addressing the realities and challenges of being a single mother, which can be daunting.”

PennDOT Demonstrates Automated License Plate Reader

With the elimination of registration stickers starting January 1st next year, legislators and law enforcement officers recently received a PennDOT organized demonstration of Automated License Plate Reader technology, which gives law enforcement a better tool to verify expired vehicle registrations.

The ALPR technology will be a huge asset during the transition, as it will allow officers to determine expired vehicle registrations and insurance coverage simply by querying the registration information, which immediately gives an alert if there is a problem.

“License plate reader technology allows a single law enforcement officer to quickly, accurately and reliably check the status of thousands of license plates on a single shift using information from PennDOT’s registration database to determine if there are expired registrations or lack of insurance for the vehicle,” said PennDOT Secretary, Leslie S. Richards. “It is a true force multiplier.”
