For some back office staff who have tuned in to QVC for decades, the West Chester-based home shopping network is about to pull the plug. In a reshuffling of priorities, 220 human resources, information technology, finance and legal jobs are coming off the air in Chester County and being rebroadcast from Krakow, Poland.

The layoffs, 100 of which are based in West Chester — including some whose tenures stretch as far back as the late 1980s — won’t officially arrive until January 2017 or after, and they’re surrounded by efforts to hire 230 others in the state and 500 across the nation, according to a Philadelphia Magazine report by Jared Shelly.

“The global business services model is part of QVC’s long-term strategy to continue modernizing how we operate as a global entity,” a spokesperson for the 17,000-person global employer said in the article. “It will provide more efficient and streamlined business services in order for QVC to stay competitive and continue expanding globally.”

Poland is already an influential business center for multinational operations.

“Many of the world’s largest companies have a global business services organization in Poland, leveraging the country’s high-quality business environment, workforce with multi-lingual capabilities and lower cost, which enable seamless support for the U.S. and Europe,” the spokesman added.
