Phoenixville’s rapid rise to stardom threatens to burn up a rating it is still celebrating at the moment: one of Pennsylvania’s top 10 most underrated towns.

It ranked No. 6 on the 2016 edition of Only in Your State’s 10 Most Underrated Towns in Pennsylvania list.

While in the midst of forging a new identity that is finally being recognized by the world, the very commemoration of its rebirth, the Phoenixville Firebird Festival, is among the attractions gaining regional attention. Each year the borough burns a large wooden phoenix and ignites a wildfire of local artistic and creative talent.

Phoenixville is also earning overdue acclaim for its annual Blobfest, a celebration of its Colonial Theatre’s star role in the 1958 hit film “The Blob.” On one Friday night each year, residents continue to reenact the mass exodus from the theater to escape The Blob, followed by a weekend festival filled with cinematic features.
