VISTA 2025 Paving the Way for Chester County’s Future

By

Through proactive leadership and a forward-thinking strategic plan, Chester County is literally paving the way for the next generation to keep the western Philly suburb atop the lists of America’s healthiest and wealthiest places — in their own way.

“We have a lot of millennials that now want to live in walkable cities; whether it’s in Chester County or in Philadelphia, we need to get them to our employment centers,” Commissioner Michelle Kichline said in a recent Comcast Newsmakers interview.

That’s why VISTA 2025 has targeted investment in Keystone Corridor infrastructure as a key to the future, she said. New rail and station improvements along the Paoli-Thorndale line and $180 million for roads like Routes 202, 422 and 100 join a $57 million infusion in the urban centers of Phoenixville, Kennett, West Chester, Malvern since 2001.

“As you develop urban centers … that’s an area of walkability; you can shop there, you can live there, and it provides a very attractive alternative for both retirement as well as our young folks that are working in other regions of Chester County,” Kichline said in the segment.
