Costello Holds Roundtable on Land and Water Conservation Fund Reform

Representative Ryan Costello is looking at ways to reform the Land and Water Conservation Fund by discussing the issue with local conservation organizations.

There is currently a proposal in place titled the ‘Protecting America’s Recreation and Conservation Act’ which was submitted by the House Committee on November 5th.

This would reform the fund while maintaining its existing $900 million budget for the next seven years. The change aims to put state and local programs at the forefront with only minimal funds for federal programs.

“Nowhere else is the LWCF more critical than right here in Southeastern Pennsylvania and particularly in the Sixth District,” pointed out Costello. “During the roundtable, I gained valuable local insight as to how best move this program forward and get the best results for our conservation efforts.”

“I will take into account the views of these conservation organizations in an effort to ensure this legislation will have the best impact.”

Endo Losing its Drug Patent Method Suit against Actavis

6.21.2014 Endo 9Endo, which has its U.S. headquarters in Malvern, has lost part of its lawsuit against Actavis over its infringement of Endo’s method of use patent.

The case revolves around Actavis’s sales of an older, non-crush resistant version of Opana ER and is also an effort to prevent Actavis from marketing Opana ER CRF, the latest version of the drug that is designed to prevent opioid abuse.

Despite the ruling the case is not yet over, as there is still another patent in dispute. But the judge’s decision does potentially indicate another milestone in the changes taking place over what is actually patent eligible.

“Every case becomes a stepping stone to courts striking down the next patent,” said Hans Sauer, Deputy General Counsel for Intellectual Property at the Biotechnology Industry Organization “This is problematic for any personalized method of treatment.”
