Budget Holdout Unplugs Cyber School Center
Screens went dark at an Exton cyber school learning center this week, victimized by the drought in state aid coming from Harrisburg as Pennsylvania continues its run without a budget.
The Wayne-headquartered Education Plus Academy Cyber Charter School closed its Exton Brandywine Achievement Center and sent 12 students to its other tutoring centers or to their home computers, according to a Philly.com report.
“It is a sad day for our students, their families and our staff,” school leader Lydia E. Jerchau said in the article. “Our team is working with those students and their families to ensure that their education is not negatively impacted and that services will continue despite their being uprooted from those centers.”
The school also closed a tutoring site in Allegheny County that served an additional nine students.
Elsewhere, teachers at Lackawanna County’s Fell Charter Elementary School are going without pay and showing up just four days a week because of budget-induced financial problems.
