On the beauty front, Kennett Square’s renowned thousand-acre Longwood Gardens is owed much of the credit for the borough’s inclusion in the unordered top 10 list. As for food and entertainment, the annual Mushroom Festival is a haven for charming activity. And Kennett Square’s ties to significant events of the past make it a prime stop for avid travelers. It claims as part of its rich heritage both the hallowed ground trodden by General Howe to reach the American Revolution’s Battle of Brandywine and portions of the revered secret Civil War pathway now known as the Underground Railroad.
The Culture Trip was also drawn to “the Appalachian Mountains, over 100 miles of coastline and over 120 state parks” within the state for its assessment of the best of Pennsylvania’s “rich selection of beautiful towns, cities and attractions.” Other top-10 towns included Philadelphia, New Hope, Jim Thorpe, Lancaster, Erie, Gettysburg, Bushkill, Strasburg and Doylestown.
