British Movietone and Associated Press have announced that they will be making available their entire news archives on YouTube. From the New York Times:

“They will place more than 1 million minutes of digitized film footage on the video-sharing platform. The archive will include coverage of major historical events like the bombing of Pearl Harbor and footage of celebrities like Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and Muhammad Ali. The AP said Wednesday more than 550,000 videos dating back to 1895 will be available on YouTube. It said this will be the largest upload of historical news content to be placed on the platform.”

As if this morning, it seems British Movietone has outpaced AP in uploading clips from their archives. We’ve selected some of our favorite newsreels. You can find more by visiting their channel on YouTube. Enjoy.
