Covered Bridge: New App Crowd-sources Sight to the Blind
Covered Bridge is a daily blog produced by VISTA Today that connects our reads with the best news, articles, videos and more from around the web.
There are millions of apps available for purchase in the Apple Store. You can download games, music production apps, and there’s even an app that will photobomb your photos will silly fat cats. It’s rare to find apps that allow people to really help one another. But that’s exactly what the “Be My Eyes” app is doing.
“Be My Eyes” is a peer-to-peer app designed to aid blind people by streaming a live video feed from their smart phone cameras to helpful app users. Say, if someone is having difficulty navigating a train terminal, they can dial in a “Be My Eyes” app user and ask for help. The recipient of the live feed (think face-time with your phone’s backside camera) is then able to provide advice based on the visual information. That is so cool.
Check out the video above for more ways this app is helping blind people live their best lives.
