Wheels Turning Again on Route 30 Bypass Expansion

By

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has restarted probes into the long-stalled Route 30 bypass of Coatesville and Downingtown, but exactly where those wheels will eventually tread is still beyond its line of sight.

Hundreds of area residents are about to wonder what’s up as PennDOT engineers make cryptic appearances in various locations to “update traffic information and to update environmental notes,” a Daily Local News article reported.

A determination of where the state will widen 14 miles of Route 30 and build new ramps and overpasses is still years away, the article explained. To get to that point, PennDOT will gather information from residents, and eminent domain will allow it to “enter their land to conduct field surveys, engineering studies, soil explorations or tests and/or soundings.”

Affected homeowners are expected to be contacted prior to any such entry, and PennDOT assures that “our entry to conduct these studies does not mean that your property has been selected for transportation improvements.”

Read more about the specifics of PennDOT’s notification to area residents about the bypass project, which was conceived in the 1990s but delayed in 2008 when transportation funding dried up, in the Daily Local News here.
