Covered Bridge is a daily blog produced by VISTA Today that connects our readers with stories, reports, opinions, more from around the web.

InvestorPlace takes a look at how Donald Trump’s net worth could have grown if he had invested his money in a passively managed index fund like Vanguard 500 Index, instead of wheeling and dealing for forty years in real estate development.

The slightly tongue in cheek article takes the position that from 1982, when Trump was worth around $200 million, if the businessman had invested that his inheritance into the Vanguard 500 Index, the only Vanguard fund available at the time, it would have grown to more than $8 billion today.

Considering that Forbes puts Donald Trump’s current net worth at $4 billion, the $8 billion he could have been worth by basically doing nothing is almost double his current wealth. That either speaks to the weakness of his business acumen or the strength of passive investment management with Vanguard.
