The local president of the Brewers of Pennsylvania wants to crank open the flow of brewing knowledge and fill the cups of students thirsty for a career in the industry.

Bill Covaleski, who is also the founder of Downingtown’s Victory Brewing Co., said his association has already attracted the interest of two prominent colleges and is finalizing plans for a formal decision on the partnership by October, according to a Philadelphia Business Journal report.

“The way it would work is that universities would use our professionals as a pool of knowledge to build their curriculums,” he said in the article. “Students released will have the type of experience we’re looking for.”

Classes would likely feature brewmasters and other industry experts for guest lectures, presentations and demonstrations. And while the Brewers of Pennsylvania wants to ensure a consistent curriculum across colleges, different universities may end up specializing in different aspects of the industry, including engineering, processing, sales and management.

The idea is meant to leverage growing interest in craft beer, for which a 16 percent increase in production has flooded the market in the first half of 2015 alone.
