SchrammAn era when the financial leadership of John Bellis penetrated deep into the foundation of Schramm Drilling Rigs’ success has finally hit bottom; Bellis will retire Oct. 1 from the West Chester hydraulic drill manufacturer made famous for its role in the rescue of trapped Chilean miners in 2010.

“We are indebted to his unconditional commitment to Schramm and for playing a big part in propelling growth and sustainability for over three decades,” CEO Bobby L. Bryan wrote in a company announcement this week.

Stepping into Bellis’ shoes will be new Chief Financial Officer Thomas G. Strauss, whose innovative revenue and pricing models, robust financial controls and pioneering process management leadership at Philly-based Arbill Industries caught the attention of the Schramm executive team.

“Tom has demonstrated a successful track record and leadership with mid-sized and Fortune 25 manufacturing companies,” Bryan wrote. “I am confident that Tom will be vital to the growth and success of our enterprise.”

Strauss lives in nearby Garnet Valley with his wife, who serves as a special education teacher at Downingtown Middle School, and has three grown children.

“Tom has demonstrated throughout his career the ability to maximize financial results and improve operations through cross-functional strategic planning, productivity and efficiency initiatives, cost reduction programs and financial accountability measures,” Bryan added. “I will rely on Tom to utilize his leadership to support our strategy of operational excellence, portfolio management and relationship management.”
