Widdy Dart Board Manufacturing in Lansdowne is one of the most popular manufacturers of hand-made American darts.

The Philadelphia region is all-in on throwing darts, and Delaware County manufacturer Widdy Dart Board Manufacturing helps make it possible, writes Henry Savage for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Dart leagues involving up to 2,000 people are popping up all over. Most are playing English darts, but an American version has also taken root, helped along by 100-year-old Widdy Dart Board Manufacturing in Lansdowne.

The company is considered one of the most popular manufacturers of American darts in the world.

American darts use wooden shafts thrown into wooden boards. The American game uses baseball language for its scoring system.

By contrast, English darts use metal or plastic shafts thrown into a fiber or cork dart board.

Hundreds of teams at bars and American Legion Posts show up weekly for Dart Night.

“Shooting darts gives you camaraderie. It’s something to do every Tuesday,” said Anthony Santini, a founding member of The Bonnie Situation, one of the teams competing in the Olde English Dart League.

The players are too old now for competitive organized sports, but darts keep them in the game.

“We all have that competitive heart, and now we can shoot darts and drink a beer while we do it,” Santini said.
