Covered Bridge: What The President Is Reading

By

Covered Bridge is a daily blog produced by VISTA Today that connects our readers with stories, books, opinions and more from around the web.

Not unlike many Chester County residents, Mr. Obama is spending a couple weeks in August on vacation–at Martha’s Vineyard to exact. So how does the president like to spend his vacation? Hunkered down behind a good book, of course. The Washington Post is reporting on a list of books Mr. Obama plans to read while taking a respite from governing, and it’s a pretty ambitious list.

1. “All That Is,” James Salter, Fictiondownload

2. “All The Light We Cannot See,” Anthony Doerr, Fiction

3. “The Sixth Extinction,” Elizabeth Kolbert, Nonfiction Science

4. “The Lowland,” Jhumpa Lahiri, Fiction

5. “Between the World and Me,” Ta-Nehisi Coates, Nonfiction Essays

6. “Washington: A Life,” Ron Chernow, Nonfiction History

In another blog post, the Washington Post estimated the total amount of pages to be somewhere close to 52 hours of reading for the average book browser. That’s quite a lot to accomplish in 16 days (around 3.25 reading hours a day).
