New Brandywine Hospital CEO Appointed

The Brandywine Hospital Board of Trustees named W. Jeffery Hunt as the hospital’s new CEO Monday, replacing Bryan Burklow who resigned the post in February. The appointment is effective June 8th.

A Philadelphia Business Journal story Monday said Hunt, a Chester County native, had most recently served as CEO for Sunbury Community Hospital in Sunbury, Pa. Earlier in his career, Hunt served as director of corporate development and marketing for Main Line Health.

Brandywine Hospital, a 169-bed community medical center in Coatesville, Pa., is owned by Community Health Systems (NYSE: CYH), a for-profit hospital management firm based in Franklin, Tenn. The other local hospitals owned and operated by CHS are Pottstown Memorial Medical Center, Phoenixville Hospital, and Jennersville Regional Hospital in West Grove, Pa.

Eagleview Gene Therapy Firm Names New General Counsel

Fibrocell Science, Inc. (Nasdaq:FCSC), an autologous cell and gene therapy company based in Eagleview, announced Monday the appointment of Michael F. Marino as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary.

In a statement issued by the company Monday, Fibrocell said Mr. Marino  is a seasoned legal advisor and executive with more than 14 years of experience advising publicly-traded and privately-held companies in a diverse range of industries—most notably life sciences, technology, manufacturing and banking, among others.

Prior to joining Fibrocell, Mr. Marino served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of NuPathe Inc., a NASDAQ-listed specialty pharmaceutical company that was acquired by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. in 2014. Prior to NuPathe, Mr. Marino was an attorney at the law firms of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP in Philadelphia and WilmerHale LLP in Boston, where his practice focused on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, financing transactions, corporate governance, securities law and general corporate law.

Mr. Marino earned a B.S. in Accountancy from Villanova University and a J.D. from Boston College Law School.

The appointment is effective immediately.

Chesterbrook Drug Distributor Adding Warehouse Capacity

Chain Drug Review, a weekly industry publication serving the chain drug store market, announced Monday that AmerisourceBergen (NYSE:ABC), The Delaware Valley’s highest grossing company and Chester County’s only Fortune 500 company, would add three new distribution centers to its network of 25 distribution hubs across the United States.

Construction of the three new center, to be located in Olive Branch, MS, Shakopee, MN and Newburgh, NY, will begin this summer and take 18 to 24 months to complete.

The new centers, according to the report, are part of ongoing AmerisourceBergen investments, totaling more than $1 billion over the last 10 years, to the company’s distribution network and IT systems, which handle almost 35% of all of the pharmaceuticals sold and distributed in the United States.
