Nearly 50 years ago, the late Malcolm Wright led the Western Chester County Chamber of Commerce as President. A proud supporter of the community, Mr. Wright would undoubtedly be thrilled to know that his grandson Jonathan Wright is now filling the same office.

Malcolm founded and owned Malcolm Wright Buick Oldsmobile GMC of Coatesville, a successful dealership that would also be located in Thorndale.

Jonathan admired his grandfather’s accomplishments, both in business and with the WCCCC. “The auto business is challenging in any era, and I would think even more so to start a dealership from scratch back then when this was an underdeveloped part of the county,” Jonathan stated, adding “My grandfather was a great supporter of the community. He liked to meet people and network, and I would say we share that.”

Jonathan and other family members are owners of the Wright Agency in Downingtown. He became active in the Chamber in 2007, noting that he initially was just a ‘regular member’ before becoming more involved.  Jonathan shared “I learned what every active Chamber member knows. You get out of the Chamber what you put into it. The more you give of your time, the more you build personal connections and business relationships.”

He would go on to become involved in several committees before being elected to the board.

Jonathan assumed the office of President in 2014 and shared his thoughts on his new role: “A ‘regular member’ can stand back and let things happen. But as you assume more leadership, you have more effect on the activities.

When you are President, there is no one else to do it for you; you have to be ‘on’ all the time.” Jonathan believes that Malcolm would be very pleased with the progress in the community and the Chamber, stating “He loved to see things move forward, he would be impressed and proud to be part of it.”
