Beginning this fall, Immaculata University will offer students the opportunity to pursue a new major in an up-and-coming field. Immaculata students will be able to select a major in Interactive Digital Media (IDM) for their Bachelor of Science degree pursuits. The IDM major will help students develop the skills necessary to create engaging media through the integration of all digital media.

Students will learn both the technical aspects of digital media and the creative design components, skills that are rarely combined into one program. The degree will open up exciting possibilities for students as they enter the workforce, opening up their chances for entry into the high-growth field of technology. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics projects job growth for web developers at 20% for the years 2012-2022 and a 6% increase for jobs as multimedia artists and animators.

Additionally, software developer was listed as the #1 job in 2014 by U.S. News and World Report. “What makes this degree so exciting is the technology tool-set that our students will gain, opening doors to many employment opportunities. The prospects are endless,” commented Sister Monica Sicilia, IHM, Instructor in Interactive Digital Media.

The field of technology continues to evolve and with it the demand to acquire the necessary skills. Students in the IDM program will be broadly prepared and achieve the practical experience needed to enter an exciting field. In addition to the IDM focused component, students will also have the opportunity to enroll in courses in Art, Communication and Business Marketing.

IDM Majors will be required to complete a three-credit internship in addition to their class work, choosing a position in an industry which closely matches their ultimate career goals. Students will also be encouraged to obtain membership in professional organizations to further enhance their development.

Immaculata University, located 20 miles west of Philadelphia, is a Catholic, comprehensive and coeducational institute of higher learning.
