Did You Know?

When The Fightin’s dropped their home opener to the visiting Red Sox Monday afternoon, neither the Phillies pitchers nor batters had a lot to brag about.  Giving up five home-runs while being held to just three hits, one walk and nine strikeouts is no one’s definition of a good day at the park.

Chance are however, even if the Phillies have a terrible season, most Chester County residents will end the season as they started out; as loyal, true blue Phillies fans.

Using aggregated data provided by the Facebook, The New York times were able to create a zip code by zip code look at the geography of baseball fandom.

Using the Times’ data we see that Chester County is definitely Phillies territory with residents of Wayne (19087), Malvern (19355) and West Chester (19382 and 19383) clearly the most loyal of Phillies fans.

Residents in other West Chester zip code (19380) together with Pottstown, Phoenixville and Kennett Square come in a point behind at 79 percent with most other Chester Count zip codes registering at 70% percent or higher.

Only residents living in the southeast portion of the county near the Maryland and Delaware boarders does Phillies fandom fall below the 70 percent level with Nottingham (19362) bringing up the rear at just 45% percent of residents classifying themselves as Phillies fans.

The Phillies may finish dead last in their division and maybe even all of baseball this year, but in Chester County resident’s hearts, they’ll always be Number One.
