TMACC Gives SCCOOT And LINK Buses A New Look

By

Look for new, colorful bright green SCOOT and LINK buses to pick up passengers using the CHESCOBUS in West Chester, Oxford, Coatesville and Parkesburg.

The Transportation Management Association of Chester County recently gave their buses new vibrant colors for better visibility and is also giving this new look to bus stop signs and tickets.

Timothy Phelps, executive director of the TMACC, said the rebranding is part of creating a “transit culture” in Chester County.

“We want Chester County to know there are other travel options than using a car,” Phelps said. “Whether it’s for medical appointments, shopping, entertainment, or work, we want people to be aware that they can use public transportation to get there. We chose the bright color and simple name to let people know that we’re here, we’re Chester County’s public transportation network.”

Randy Waltermyer, director of transportation planning for the Chester County Planning Commission, said the county needs to redefine commuter preferences.

“Around 245,000 daily commuters are using single occupancy vehicles to travel,” said Waltermyer.  “Chester County is continuing to grow and our infrastructure will not handle more SOVs on the road.  We need more agencies like TMACC promoting public transportation to fix this growing problem.”

Phelps said the TMACC hopes the CHESCOBUS will attract new riders and that the stable funding of regular ridership will open doors for more improvements to the service such as new bus routes.

The new green buses are in service. Bus stop signs will be installed throughout the winter months and finish by spring.
