A Berwyn company is making a bet that the technology we carry around in our pockets and on our wrists will soon be worn right within our clothes, and as a result, TE Connectivity Ltd. is racing to develop the little pieces that will help these next-generation technologies break out of the box and into the fabric.

“This all uses our stuff — plugs, antennas, sensors, little connectors that tie things together. We’re enabling the wearables of tomorrow,” Vice President for Consumer Strategy Eric Braddom said in a Philly.com article. “This is emerging, it’s incredibly fast-growing, and it’s going to change our lives in many ways.”

TE Connectivity opened a wearables lab in California’s high-tech Menlo Park in order to interact with the biggest players in the wearables market, and its engineers have already experimented with plugless, wireless chargers; flat microwave chargers; and more rugged sensors.

“TE has an innovative approach to wireless charging in wearables,” Lenovo research director ZhePeng “Joe” Wang said in the article. “TE is definitely focused on solving the tough challenges.”
