Balfour Beatty Communities, the Malvern-based multi-family housing and community developer, announced last week that Hayley King, sustainability coordinator for Balfour Beatty Communities, has joined the National Apartment Association’s (NAA) Operations Task Force Committee.

King’s membership on the task force is seen by the company as strengthening the relationship and collaboration between NAA and Balfour Beatty Communities.

According to Terri Edelman, an EVP at Balfour Beatty Communities, King’s participation on the Task force provides “a voice that reflects our continued commitment to the multifamily industry as well as sustainable practices.”

As part of the Operations Task Force, Hayley will work with fellow members to create tools and resource materials to educate property managers on energy efficiency, as well as engaging stakeholders in benchmarking legislation and benchmarking changes, and developing employee retention strategies for maintenance professionals.

Additionally, the Committee is working with NAA staff to implement the newly developed Energy 2020 program, a strategic partnership with Yardi intended to educate industry partners on energy conservation and help apartment communities identify areas where they can increase efficiency.

Efforts include energy-focused conference education sessions and webinars, local affiliate advocacy efforts, original research, an energy awards program, NAAEI initiatives and energy-related communications through social media, specialty newsletters and unit magazines.

Ms. King is a LEED BD+C accredited professional, a Certified Green Professional, and serves on leadership committees for the Urban Land Institute, U.S. Green Building Council and National Green Building Standard. She provided oversight on the world’s largest NGBS Emerald-rated military community at Fort Bliss, TX, a standard with energy requirements six times higher than LEED-H platinum certification.
