County Crash and Crash Related Deaths Stats Place County In Grim Top 10 Ranking

While life in Chester County is bucolic for most, traveling on the county’s roads is anything but calm and serene.

Turns out Chester County ranks in the top 10 counties in Pennsylvania (out of 67 counties) for car crashes and crash-related deaths.  This according to a blog post written by Fred Gunther, CEO of Grand Sport Auto.

Grand Sport Auto, based in West Chester, has been in business over 30 years and has eight locations across Chester County.

Gunther’s post titled “Top 10 Chester County Crash Stats You Need To See” details the less than perfect state of travel in and around Chester County and was written in the hopes that the information might, “prevent some of the mistakes that lead to accidents.”

Three interesting tidbits included in Gunther’s post are:

  • Statewide, Chester County drivers account for 3.6 percent of the accidents and 2.7 percent of the crashes.
  • The rate of both auto accidents and death related crashes has held steady over the last five year.
  • Since 2009 the number of alcohol-related deaths on Chester County roadways has more than doubled.

While these numbers give pause, other stats in Gunther’s post point out county drivers aren’t the reckless lot the crash stats paint them to be.

Seat belt usage by everyday county drivers and those involved in accidents, according to Gunther’s posts, is not only climbing but at 87 percent, is well above the state average of 78 percent.
