With the last at-grade railroad crossing between Philadelphia and Harrisburg gated off, Amtrak trains are cranking up their speeds, and plans for new or improved Chester County stations are chugging forward.

The design for the new Paoli station is now under way while plans for the new Downingtown and Coatesville stations are still being finalized, the Daily Local News reported. Also, parking expansion at the Exton station has been approved, and Parkesburg’s new station is “on the radar” but on hold.

Completion of the Paoli station will lead the new developments with a 2018 target date, PennDOT Bureau of Aviation Director Jennie Granger said in the article.
