Malvern’s Frontline Education has purchased Excent Corp., its fourth acquisition in nine months.

Frontline Technologies in Exton, a leading provider of web-based tools for the K-12 education market, has just acquired Aspex Solutions and its popular AppliTrack talent management suite.

Chicago-based Aspex Solutions was founded in 1998.  Its AppliTrack suite of tools is used to manage and automate each process in the employment lifecycle of education professionals – from recruit and hire to retire. Applitrak serves more than 3,000 U.S. customers.  It also manages K12JobSpot, the country’s most frequently visited K-12 job board.

“We are extremely excited to welcome the AppliTrack team,” said Michael Blackstone, Frontline’s managing partner.  “They have done an outstanding job of building and growing a successful product that is used and loved by thousands of school districts. This acquisition will not only enable more growth for AppliTrack, but will also support our vision to provide a comprehensive set of software tools that allows school districts to effectively and efficiently manage human capital.”

Frontline is known far beyond Exton by hundreds of thousands of education workers who daily use its Aesop substitute placement and absence management system.  Aesop is now used by more than 4,000 school districts. Frontline also offers VeriTime, a time and attendance management system, and Jobulator, a job notification tool for substitute teachers using Aesop.

The company says it plans to continue to expand into K-12 human capital management software and develop and acquire new products.  Roland Thompson, Frontline’s managing partner, said K-12 schools are inundated with too many systems and vendors.

“District human resources professionals have said they want to move towards a single provider but still want access to best-of-breed products,” Thompson said. “Our strategy offers access to the best products along with the added benefits of shared data, integrated functionality and a single vendor relationship.”
