The quick adoption of smart phone payment technologies has been an unexpected boon for USA Technologies.

Coca-Cola wants a jury to decide whether monthly fees flowed from its vending machines instead of its world-renowned soda after the soft drink giant halted its cashless payment arrangement with Malvern-based USA Technologies.

Coke claims it’s due $1 million in fees that were illegally collected since late 2012, but USA Technologies has refuted the lawsuit, saying it is “baseless and without merit” and that the company intends to “vigorously defend itself against these accusations,” according to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution article.

The agreement between the two companies called for a monthly fee of 5 percent of each machine’s proceeds plus “a percentage” of each transaction for payment processing.
