Canine Partners For Life Plans 25th Anniversary Event

By

Canine Partners for Life, a nonprofit organization in Cochranville that raises and trains service dogs for individuals with disabilities, will celebrate its 25th anniversary with an open house and 25th birthday party from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5.

8.8.2014 Canine for life logoThe event will be an educational day with free family events. Visitors will have a chance to see service dog demos, meet service-dogs-in-training, take kennel tours, and learn about CPL’s mission.

There will be face painting, a puppy kissing booth, birthday party games and a free barbecue meal. There will also be shopping opportunities at the tables of more than 20 craft and food vendors and the chance to have a picture taken with a CPL service-dog-in-training or the Turkey Hill Cow.

There will also be Cow Bingo at 2 p.m. In this game of chance if the cow heeds the call of nature on your square, you are the lucky winner of $5,000. Tickets are $10 each and squares are randomly assigned. Only 2,500 squares are available by calling 610–869‑4902 extension 225 or 227. The winner need not be present to win.  More vendors are welcome, and registration information is on the CPL web site here.

CPL will hold the event rain or shine.  They ask visitors not to bring personal pets, retired service dogs or home companion dogs, but working service dogs are welcome.

CPL was founded in 1989 by Darlene Sullivan.  The 45-acre property has an office building for 24 employees, a state of the art kennel and a training center. CPL has placed over 500 service and home companion dogs in 43 states.

The total cost to raise, train, place, and provide lifetime support for each CPL dog is more than $29,000 per dog. However, CPL uses an income-based scale to determine a suggested donation fee for each recipient. Most range from $1,000 to $3,000.
