Johnson & Johnson has slashed its West Chester-based DePuy Synthes medical device manufacturer by 400 jobs in a global restructuring effort, but the company didn’t specify how many of those positions are local.

The shakeup is also expected to generate 80 new positions for the maker of spine and bone repair products. All changes are occurring “’across many sites and areas’ of the business,” spokeswoman Lorie Gaweluk said in a recent Philadelphia Business Journal article.

DePuy Synthes employs 23,000 and also has offices in Switzerland.
