Malvern Based Ricoh Announces Global Corporate Restructuring

By

Ricoh Electronics, Inc., a Japanese multinational imaging and electronics company with local offices in Malvern and Wilmington, recently announced some corporate restructuring.

By October, Ricoh plans to strengthen its industrial business and spin off its electronic devices business. The electronics devices division will be transferred to a new company in an effort to keep sales strong. The Ricoh Group announced worldwide sales of 1.924 billion yen (about $20 billion) during its fiscal year ending March, 2013.

The innovative company three years ago blanketed the rooftop of its Southern California headquarters with electricity-generating solar panels. The manufacturing subsidiary there is now generating more than 10 percent of its own electricity.

“This project expresses Ricoh’s enduring commitment to addressing global challenges such as climate change, natural resource depletion and ecosystem degradation,” Eiko Risch, director of environment, health and safety at Ricoh said in a company news release.

“In fact, this work is as significant as our business operations. We carry it out by helping our customers work more sustainably, which often renders significant cost savings, and striving to make our technologies, supply chain, manufacturing processes, materials selection and facilities management as eco-friendly as they can be,” Risch said. “Our Ricoh Electronics, Inc. solar power generation in California was our first such installation outside of Japan and is just one example of our worldwide mission.”

Ricoh has set a goal of reducing its total lifecycle of CO2 emissions by 87.5 percent before the year 2050, with an interim goal of a 30 percent reduction by 2020. The company has been rated as one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the world for the past 10 years.

Ricoh states the majority of its revenue comes from products, solutions and services that improve the interaction between people and information. Ricoh also produces award-winning digital cameras and specialized industrial products. The company says it takes pride in the quality of its technology, its customer service standards and its sustainability initiatives.
