More than 60 community members gathered on April 10 to celebrate the grand opening of a new trauma-informed counseling center from Family Service of Chester County in Coatesville, marking a significant step forward in expanding access to mental health services in the region.

The event brought together local residents, community leaders, and mental health advocates for an afternoon focused on healing, education, and connection. Attendees had the opportunity to tour the newly opened space, designed specifically to create a safe, welcoming environment for individuals seeking support.
State Representative Dan Williams was in attendance and delivered remarks recognizing the importance of accessible mental health care in the community.
Family Service of Chester County Executive Director Mark Butler spoke about the vision behind the center and the impact it aims to have locally.
“This center represents hope for so many individuals and families in our community,” Butler said. “Our goal is to provide a space where people feel safe, understood, and supported as they work through their experiences.”
In addition to the ribbon-cutting, guests participated in a series of interactive mental health exercises. These activities were designed to introduce attendees to practical tools used in trauma-informed care, helping them better understand how the center supports emotional well-being.
Butler emphasized that the approach goes beyond traditional counseling methods.
“Trauma-informed care is about meeting people where they are,” he said. “It’s about recognizing the impact of life experiences and creating a path forward that’s rooted in trust, compassion, and empowerment.”
Organizers noted that the strong turnout reflects a rising awareness of mental health needs across Chester County. By offering services grounded in trauma-informed principles, the center aims to provide personalized care that acknowledges the impact of past experiences.
The new counseling center will offer a range of services focused on mental health counseling, emotional regulation, and long-term healing, with a mission to make high-quality care more accessible to the Coatesville community.
The grand opening not only introduced a new resource, but also underscored a broader commitment to fostering resilience and connection in Coatesville—one conversation at a time.
