County Solicitor
This position will serve as Chester County’s chief legal strategist and a trusted advisor, providing high-level counsel to the County Commissioners, executive leadership, and departments across the organization. Duties include providing legal services by offering verbal opinions and advice and writing legal opinions, abiding by all court-mandated deadlines, and engaging with county departments to ensure compliance. Additionally, County Solicitor initiates lawsuits and defends the County of Chester in lawsuits.
The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate Degree, with the ability to practice law in Pennsylvania courts. Candidates need at least ten years of experience, and should have excellent negotiation, leadership, and judgement skills. Preferably, applicants should be familiar with municipal government law or public sector law and County Code.

Chief Public Defender
This position is responsible for providing Constitutionally-effective representation to indigent individuals charged with criminal offenses, as well as managing and supervising all legal and administrative functions of the Office. Duties involve providing governance and guidance to the office of the Public Defender, hiring attorneys and support staff, participating in criminal justice related organizations, and monitoring department’s budget. Additionally, you will manage case assignments/attorney caseloads and maintain a limited client caseload.
The ideal candidate should have a Juris Doctor degree and ten years of job-related experience, with at least four years of office and personnel management, and a current Pennsylvania Attorney’s License. Candidates should have the ability to analyze facts, research details, and to work cooperatively with other departments, while also being organized and having great public speaking skills.

Deputy Register of Wills
This position will be responsible for assisting the County Register of Wills, direct the daily functions of the office, maintain records relating to the probate of wills, and grant letters of administration and testamentary. Duties include managing and overseeing all functions of the office, assisting in training staff, performing all administrative activities, and maintaining the budget.
The ideal candidate should have an Associate’s degree and ten years of job-related experience, with knowledge of County of Chester Code or the ability to learn. Candidates should have an understanding of fiscal planning, Human Resource guidelines, excellent interpersonal skills. Additionally, you can maintain confidential information, and have strong project management, organizational, and customer service skills.
