Malvern-based Vanguard Group has shifted away from sponsoring visas and plans to directly hire 2,000 technology workers at its new office in Hyderabad, India, writes Joseph N. DiStefano for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Having already brought on over 200 staff, Vanguard India aims on hiring another 2,000 more over the next three to four years. The office, which opened last fall, is located in a Hyderabad technology park alongside tech centers that are run by other U.S. financial and software companies.
Vanguard is among the Philadelphia region’s largest corporate employers, with more than 10,000 staff at its Malvern headquarters and in the surrounding offices.
The company stated that although its IT division is expanding globally, most positions will remain in the U.S., and no jobs will be eliminated domestically or abroad due to the new roles in India.
However, some Vanguard IT employees in the U.S. noted that the hiring in India comes alongside buyout offers and evaluations to assess employees’ readiness for new technology. Those who are being impacted include middle managers and scrum masters on Agile software development teams.
