King of Prussia’s UGI Ties Brand Rebuild to Return of Philadelphia Cycling Classic

King of Prussia-based UGI is backing the return of the Philadelphia Cycling Classic as part of a broader brand revival effort.

King of Prussia’s UGI Corp. is playing a key role in bringing a major Philadelphia sporting event back to life, writes Emma Dooling for The Philadelphia Business Journal.

Through its propane subsidiary AmeriGas, UGI has signed on as the presenting sponsor of the newly revived Philadelphia Cycling Classic, marking the race’s return after nearly a decade-long hiatus. The event is expected to draw more than 250 professional cyclists and 200,000 spectators when it returns Aug. 30.

The sponsorship is part of a broader strategy under new CEO Robert Flexon, who took over in late 2024. It will focus on revitalizing AmeriGas’ performance and public perception. Recently, UGI has faced financial challenges, including declining revenue and a drop from the Fortune 500, prompting internal changes aimed at improving efficiency and customer service.

Flexon said the cycling event offers a chance to reintroduce AmeriGas to the Philadelphia region with a “comeback” narrative. The highly visible event will feature AmeriGas branding across race weekend activities, along with employee involvement and a community-focused charity ride.

UGI and AmeriGas together employ nearly 2,500 people in the region, reinforcing the local impact of the company’s turnaround efforts.
