Shane Barry never set out to chase the spotlight when he founded the Havertown Carpet Co. in 2015. He just set out to survive.

With more than a decade of experience at a stable job in the flooring industry, and with his wife pregnant with their third child, he traded in his car for a work van with just two seats and started his own company.

It was an entrepreneurial leap fueled by both fear and belief, then carried forward by long days, difficult early years, and a community that supported him in a big way.

Now, Havertown Carpet Co. has found itself squarely in the spotlight after it won the second annual Brotherly Shove Business Spotlight, a program from Firstrust Bank and the Philadelphia Eagles that aims to uplift and promote small businesses in the Greater Philadelphia area.

Havertown Carpet Co. was selected out of more than 700 entries from privately owned, for-profit businesses in Greater Philadelphia with annual revenue between $1 million and $50 million.

As the winner, Havertown Carpet Co. was awarded $25,000 in promotional assets, including mention on the Eagles Video Board during a recent home game, digital billboard ads, paid social media content, two tickets for three Eagles home games in Firstrust Bank’s Touchdown Terrace, and more to support its growth and brand awareness.

“I was shocked when (Firstrust Bank CEO and President) Tim Abell called to tell me that we’d won,” said Barry. “I’d forgotten that my wife entered us in the contest. When I shared the great news with our team, everyone was fired up to be associated with the Eagles and Firstrust Bank.”

Colleen Barry, who oversees the business’s social media and community engagement efforts, was appreciative of the program’s focus on small businesses.

“I thought it was cool that they were targeting small businesses, amplifying their stories, and helping to expand their reach and propel their next chapter of growth,” she said.

Shane Barry founded Havertown Carpet Co. in response to a need for better flooring options in Delaware County, and with the goal of simplifying the floor-buying process for busy families, like his. He wanted to make home improvements less stressful by offering transparent pricing, expert guidance, and convenience.

The concept resonated. By 2016, the business had outgrown its early beginnings and moved into its first showroom in Havertown. It later acquired Ascot Carpets in Upper Darby (in 2021), Fred Callaghan Carpet & Flooring in Malvern (in 2022), and Fishers Carpet One Floor & Home in West Chester (in 2025).

Today, Havertown Carpet Co. serves homeowners and businesses across Delaware, Montgomery, Chester, Bucks, and Berks counties, offering carpet, hardwood, vinyl, laminate, custom rugs, and more — all backed by professional installation.

One of the criteria for the Brotherly Shove Business Spotlight was how a business shows up for the community. Havertown Carpet Co. is known for its annual Teacher Appreciation Event in August, when it donates hundreds of free rugs to local educators — more than 2,000 in total since 2021 — helping to create warm, welcoming spaces for students across the region. The event was inspired by Colleen, who taught special education for more than a decade and understands how much teachers personally invest in their classrooms.

“We always had this vision of helping teachers, and coming out of the pandemic, in 2021, we held our first event and gave away 302 rugs,” said Shane. “We never realized how much it would take off.”

“That first year, one teacher was so excited and couldn’t wait to tell her grandmother that the giveaway was real,” said Colleen. “Her grandmother said there was no way that a company would be giving away free rugs. She thought it was a scam.”

In addition to the promotional package, the Eagles donated $5,000 to help offset the cost of free rugs for teachers.

With the awareness generated by winning the Brotherly Shove Business Spotlight, Havertown Carpet Co. is aiming to deepen its reach. The Barrys hope the increased exposure will draw new customers, support upcoming showroom expansions, and reinforce the message that they’re equipped to serve a wide range of flooring needs.

“Partnering with these two powerhouse institutions will help us reach even more communities,” said Shane.
