West Chester’s newest hotel, Hotel Indigo, had its soft opening on New Year’s Eve, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.
The Zukin Family project is a true love letter to the borough’s overnight visitors and residents. Visitors will learn about West Chester’s history while embracing its present, and residents get a nostalgic reminder of the past.
The new 108-room, full service hotel is filled with nods to West Chester University, hotel visionary Stan Zukin, and many other things related to the borough.
The hotel also features The West Chester Seafood Kitchen restaurant, a raw bar, gym, and a spacious business center. Additionally, there’s the speakeasy at Room 109, also known as The Hidden Room.
“When entering the hotel, you know you’re in West Chester by seeing the local artists, history, and connections to the past and present,” said Scott Zukin, who is partnering with the Onix Group on the project.
The six-story classic brick hotel has a display of the historic courthouse, a painting by local artist John Hannifin, and many newspaper clippings hung on the walls. There are also large paintings of Frederick Douglass, who delivered his last speech in town.
