New Report Details Who Has Been Moving Into Center City’s New Apartment Buildings

Center City District has published a new survey that details the demographics of the individuals moving into new Center City apartments.

Center City has seen a major influx of new apartments in recent years and a new report breaks down the demographics of the individuals who have been moving into them, writes Molly McVety for PhillyVoice.

A recent survey published by the Center City District shows that Philadelphia has been attracting many new residents from other major cities, especially along the East Coast.

It found that 44 percent of respondents had moved to Center City from outside of Southeastern Pennsylvania, coming from 37 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, and several countries.

The most common city was New York City, with Cherry Hill, Boston, Chicago, and Atlanta rounding out the top five.

“I just thought that was striking,” said Clint Randall, Center City District’s vice president of economic development. “A significant share of these people are coming from other major cities. It really speaks to the fact that there is a draw to Philadelphia and people, for a variety of reasons, are choosing to give Philly a try.”

CCD officials collaborated with Alterra Property Group, Greystar, Pearl Properties, and Scully Company to survey the residents. The survey received 682 responses from people living in two dozen Center City apartment buildings.
